The family of brewers, Pierre and Vinciane and their children, are sixth-generation farmers and thus perpetuating their <b>family values<\/b>. When his parents retired in 2012, Pierre wholeheartedly took on the management of the farm.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The farm grows winter and spring barley, with no pesticides or other treatments. This choice is part of our process for selecting raw materials in accordance with <b>criteria for quality and sustainable development<\/b>. 17 hectares are sown, which produce 130 tonnes of barley. Other crops are also grown at the farm: wheat, beets, beans and pulses. Three hectares are maintained as wildlife reserves.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Once harvested, the barley is germinated and dried to obtain malt (the most important raw material for beer in terms of quantity) at Castle Malting in Beloeil.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">We are the only brewery in Belgium that grows its own barley. It enables us to <b>control the whole production chain<\/b> and to use a <b>short supply chain<\/b>: we do not import barley transported by trucks from abroad. Our beer comes directly \u201cfrom the earth to your glass\u201d. This system purifies the \u201cdirty\u201d water produced during brewing, cleaning tanks, cleaning and racking bottles and barrels, etc. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The treatment plant works using the lagooning technique (the water flows slowly through various lagoons where microorganisms break down the impurities). We plan to increase this to an additional 200-250 MWh.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">We also have 54 m2 of <b>solar boiler panels<\/b> on the roof. This solar heating enables us to heat the water needed for beer production, and to consume less energy to reach the necessary temperatures.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Using heat energy recovery, 70 to 80% of energy needed for heating the offices and warm storage rooms comes from the brewery itself.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row css=&#8221;.vc_custom_1566218618562{margin-top: 50px !important;padding-top: 50px !important;}&#8221;][vc_column][vc_row_inner content_placement=&#8221;middle&#8221; el_class=&#8221;resp-margin&#8221;][vc_column_inner el_class=&#8221;z-plus&#8221; width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243; css=&#8221;.vc_custom_1566371399528{margin-right: -50px !important;padding-top: 35px !important;padding-right: 35px !important;padding-bottom: 35px !important;padding-left: 35px !important;background-color: #ffffff !important;}&#8221;][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span class=\"s1\" style=\"color: #85714d;\"><b> A small, local, family business that respects people and the environment <\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Other initiatives <b>genuinely put our values<\/b> of respect for local employment and quality into practice.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">We do not use any additive whatsoever in the production of our beers.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">The majority of our bottles are returned and reused.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Our car park is surfaced with gravel rather than concrete: water can drain through the soil.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">We have replanted 600 young trees on land next to the plot used to construct our new buildings.
